What if the business conglomerates masquerading as college athletic conferences were busted up and the top 81 teams by attendance were organized by geography rather than TV markets and then given a fair and equitable shot to make a 16-team playoff at the end of the season?

Conference Buster is your answer.

Week 1 conference standings and playoff bracket

You have to laugh at all the attention given to the new college football playoff selection committee. One talking head on TV after another acts like this is some impossible job these people have been charged with.

The committee has hired an analytics firm to compile a data platform to assist in the rankings, which will be released to the public each week starting at the end of October.

The rankings are going to end up being very similar to the BCS formula with a mix of computers and individual vote by these people who really have no more validity than the average group of college football aficionados.

So once the rankings are released to the public, what is the committee going to do, pick Nos. 1, 3, 7, and 8 instead? The NCAA basketball tournament committee has the much more difficult job.

There is a much better way, football people, but first you have to bust up the conferences like this...

Teams in red have qualified for the 16-team postseason playoff seeded below the standings. Teams in blue have qualified as the worst two teams in Division 1 and must play to see who is sent down to Division 2 for the following season. Teams are ranked in each division using the brilliant Massey comparison rankings.
